WCT Audition Information

Registration

Registration will take place in the lobby of the Majestic as you enter.  Look for a table with the age that matches your age.  You will be asked to put on a nametag.  A helper will sign your name on an audition call sheet.

(Be sure to tell the helper if you want to audition with a particular person.  It would be helpful if you and your friend both signed in at the same time.)
You will be handed a packet of papers.  In the packet will be two audition forms
(1/2 sheets) that you will fill out and bring with you when you are called to audition.    Also in the packet, will be a registration form for the camp.  Don't fill it out yet.  Take the registration form home.  If you are accepted into the camp, fill out the form and return it to the Majestic Theater by 5:00 pm on Friday, May 30th.  The last thing in the packet is the audition sheet that you will read from.  Go into the auditorium and practice the audition sheet.  Mike and Larry will talk to everyone in the auditorium as soon as registration is completed.

Audition - The Dialogue

When you are called to one of the stations to audition, you will be asked to perform a dialogue. The dialogue page can be found on the website ahead of time by clicking this link:  Audition Page.   You will be asked to choose one of the two parts from the audition page and perform the dialogue with another actor in your age group.

The ability to clearly say each word.
The ability to show emotion with your face
The ability to move around on stage in a manner that enhances the dialogue
The ability to use your arms, hands, legs, etc. to convey emotion.
The ability to make large, sweeping motions that could be seen from far away.

Advanced
The ability to interpret the role in a distinctive, consistent manner.
The ability to direct others by the movement and placement of your body on stage.
The ability to develop a sense of character through mannerisms, distinctive speech, etc.

What Are We Not Looking For?

Changing the text of the script.
Rapid, undefined movements that detract from the script
Fits of  laughter - (a few nervous giggles are acceptable.)
Note:
If any actor has a learning disability, especially in reading, please let the registration person or the audition person so that modifications can be made.

Audition - The Song

You will be asked to sing a song. The song is without accompaniment.  If you combine movement with the song, that is an added bonus.  Please choose a song that shows your range but is not overly challenging for you to sing.  Also, choose a song that is a "singing" song, not a "talking" song.  Again, we will be looking for ability to stay on pitch, projection, movement and, generally, how well you "sell" the song.  If you are self-conscious about your singing ability, join the club.   No matter how you sing, if you at least give it a try, you are qualified for group songs.
