PROPERTY PHOTOS (February 2001)

Behind Anjia's 'tree' house is the 'boat house' (now a barn) and to the right is the wood
shed Dad helped me build. The pictures of Anjia were taken at the coast in January when we
stayed for a mini vacation (just overnight). The deer is one of two, which frequent our
yard and wait for occasional handouts of apples.

The salmon was one of 10-15 we watched go up the creek or spawn on our property. Although
we have several hawks living close by, this one had its picture taken on the coast highway.
Cars, trucks and busses passed within feet of his position at 40 to 50 miles per hours with
no response	other than a mild curiosity while he munched his lunch. Stephanie's pony is only
interested in eating grass, as usual.

Riparian zone planting took place throughout the winter. Cuurently there are about 1100
trees planted with about 200 left to go. In addition we'll be planting a minimum of 400
native shrubbery plants. Between 500 and 600 trees have their 36" tall plastic covers
installed (to protect against mice munching, deer and elk browsing and possibly even deter
the beavers). The rest will follow, along with 3' x 3' mats around each tree and shrub to
keep the weeds and grass at bay (this increases the growth rate by 100%). The second tube
picture shows tubes ripped lengthwise by the elk. The last in this set is the 'field house',
a second shell which was on the property when we purchased it. The shingle roof was wasted
and has been removed in this photo. It pretty much needs totally rebuilt, but I'm hoping
to have it sealed up for use as a rustic cabin for guests this summer.

The bald eagle was observed just a short way up the creek from our house, which is a current
picture (01/2001). After the riparian planting is finished (and taxes completed) the house
addition is next on the list. The 'field house' and pole barn construction will be there
for those times when I need a break from the house construction.
