Pros Hold Grid Draft Today

From their headquarters at 30 Biscayne Blvd., the Dolphins will join 24 other American and National Football League clubs around the nation in the first combined draft of college football players today.
The leagues begin selecting at 10 am, with central headquarters in New York and liaison maintained throughout member cities by phone and wire.
Joe Thomas, the Dolphins’ personnel director, said if all goes well he expects to have his first round choice by l0:30. Miami picks fourth in round one behind Baltimore, Minnesota and Atlanta.
While the Dolphin pick depends on the three preceding selections, indications are Miami will begin with either tackle Loyd Philips of Arkansas, halfback Mel Farr of UCLA, or quarterback Bob Griese of Purdue.
The drafting, in
which the 25 clubs will tap 445 college seniors, is expected to take at least
two days.
The Dolphins get
15 selections, having traded their third and fifth-round choices to the Denver
Broncos last fall in their deal for fullback Cookie Gilchrist.
