PURDUE TRIUMPHS OVER OHIO U., 17-0

Griese Gets 2 Touchdowns and Kicks for 5 Points

LAFAYETTE, Ind., Sept 26 (AP) —Bob Griese, sophomore quarterback from Evansville, Ind., scored two touchdowns, kicked a 36-yard field goal and converted two extra points today in a 17-0 Purdue victory over Ohio University.

Griese rounded out his college football debut by completing 8 of 13 passes for 119 yards despite rain that left the new Ross-Ade Field so spongy that half-time band maneuvers were canceled.

The   outmanned Bobcats gained only 93 yards rushing and passing and never penetrated the Purdue 40-yard line. Purdue gained 207 yards rushing and 150 passing.

A junior end, Bob Hadrick, helped Griese with magnificent catches, grabbing seven passes for 83 yards.

Gordon Teter, junior right halfback, picked up 82 yards for Purdue in 19 carries and caught two passes for 42 yards.

Stars in the rugged Purdue defense that held Ohio to 57 yards on the ground included senior end, Harold Wells, and a sophomore Endrick Rubble of Brazil. Ind. John Charles a den, N. J., also helped make the future a look rosy for Purdue fans.

Although the Bobcats never mounted a consistent attack, a sophomore fullback, Wash Lyons of Astabula, Ohio, picked up 59 yards in 15 rushes and was a marked man after the first few plays.
