Owner of Plumbing Company S.H. Griese
Dies at His Home

S. H. (Slick) Griese, owner and manager of the
S. H. Griese Plumbing Company, 612 W. Franklin st, died in his sleep, about
6:30 a.m. today at his home, 305 Mary st.
Mr. Griese, 48, had not been ill. County Coroner
H. T. Combs held an inquest this afternoon to determine cause of death.
Mr. Griese, a native of Evansville, was a
graduate of Memorial High School where he played guard on the football team.
Following graduation in 1926, he went to work as an apprentice for Sam Schmitt,
plumbing contractor.
He founded his contracting
business in 1932. He was a member of the Indiana Master Plumbers Association
for 12 years. He was elected president in 1953, stepping up from the position
of vice-president. In 1952, he was chairman of the association's convention
held in Evansville, and was director of the group at the time of his death.
He
was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. William Griese, and the brother of Fred
Griese, owner and operator of the New Yorker Bar and Restaurant, and Frank
Griese, owner of the Griese Floor Covering Company. Another brother, George,
died in Ft Lauderdale, Fla., Feb.24.
He was a member of Assumption Cathedral, Knights
of Columbus, Fourth Degree Knight of Columbus, Elks, Eagles, Evansville Athletic
Club, Moose, and Owls.
Surviving
besides the brothers are his wife, Ida Marie; sons, William and Robert,
and daughter, Joyce Ann, all at home; and aunts, Mrs. Christine Shaffer and
Mrs. Louise Holcomb, both of
Evansville.
Funeral will be in Ted Ziemer Fountain Terrace
Chapel at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, continued in Assumption Cathedral at 9. Burial
in St. Joseph's Cemetery.
The body win be at the funeral home after 5 pm
today. The Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus will stand guard from 7 to 9
p.m. tomorrow.
